Scale/Salary: £43,000 - £53,000

Department: Central team – Finance and Operations  

Hours: 37 hours a week

We are looking to recruit a Head of ICT and Infrastructure.  The Head of ICT and Infrastructure’s is an integral senior position within the Trust central team.  The main responsibility is to ensure the technology in the Trust is of a high and reliable standard. 

You will also oversee the Trust buildings, working closely with the site team to make sure they are fit for purpose, well maintained and provide best value for money.   This role is critical to the delivery of services to our schools.    
This pivotal role requires a proactive, forward thinking, motivated professional who has a broad remint across IT and Estates and a passion for getting involved.    
The role requires the candidate to be able to build strong relationships with staff across the trust but in particular with Head teachers, site team and IT team.

Main purpose of the role

1. To ensure that the provision of technology in the Trust is of a high and reliable standard, and contributes to the learning of all students and supports all staff.

2. Overseeing the Trust’s data protection processes and advise the DPO on best practice.

3. To ensure that the Trust buildings are fit for purpose, well maintained and provide best value for money.

4. To provide a safe working environment for both staff and students by ensuring compliance with all statutory regulations.  

5. Under the direction of the Finance & Operations Director, take a lead role on various aspects of project management, ensuring cost effective solutions which yield a high return on investment for the Trust’s needs.

6. Identify funding streams to access grants for maintaining and improving the condition of the trust estate. 


  • Be responsible for the provision of all Trust ICT and premises equipment and services via the line management of trust staff and the management of outsources services and contracts, to ensure SLA’s are met and value for money is achieved.
  • Be responsible for the provision of all premise’s equipment and services as the line manager of the Trust Facilities teams.
  • Work to the Finance & Operations Director, leading on projects and initiatives where required.
  • Produce management information to ensure targets, service standards, KPI’s and compliance requirements are met and remedial action identified and undertaken.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships and collaboration with the Principals, colleagues, external contractors and all stakeholders.
  • Develop, implement and keep under review the policies and procedures for the delivery of facilities services.
  • To provide reports to the CEO as required.
  • Ensure service developments and changes are communicated to internal stakeholders and contractors.
  • Develop a combined help desk for ITC and Estates, analysing and reporting on monthly information relating to quality and output of work by the team members.
  • Assist in preparing the annual budget bid for both the ICT and Site functions, to ensure best value for money is achieved and accounting practices are adhered to.
  • Provide advice, support, information and training about Health & Safety and Fire Procedures to the CEO, Finance and Operations Director, trustees, SLT, Principals, line managers and staff across the organisation.
  • Ensure that Health and Safety and Fire policy and procedures are regularly reviewed and updated to take account of changes in legislation and reflect best practice.
  • Ensure all necessary risk assessments are completed and documented in respect of; Fire Safety; DSE; COSHH; manual handling; personal evacuation plans 
  • Take a lead on the specification of all equipment and work closely with the procurement manager for ordering and maintenance of this equipment.
  • To maintain an overview of all hardware and software for the Trust, ensuring value for money and a consistent approach to systems across all schools.
  • To advise on and assist in the acquisition of any software or systems for use within the Trust, such as learning schemes software, financial, performance management or pupil management systems.
  • To undertake projects as directed which are commensurate with the duties listed above.  

Person Specification

  • The Head of ICT & Facilities will have excellent people skills and have a proven track record of dealing with staff and external agencies.  
  • They will have excellent technical background and experience of local networks and be Microsoft certified. 
  • Significant practical experience of dealing with the day-to-day issues surrounding building management (e.g. heating, cooling, lighting, Lifts, cleaning) in a multi-site education organisation. 
  • Experience of managing service and supply contracts and of setting detailed specifications for ITC and building systems and services. 
  • Experience of leading on data protection law and specifically GDPR and advising DPO of risks. 
  • Experience of setting and managing budgets and a proven track record of securing funding for buildings and ITC infrastructure. 
  • Experience of leading and managing a team of people effectively.  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent professional qualification. Microsoft certified engineer is desirable. COSHH training is essential. 
  • Proven track record of undertaking continuous professional development to maintain an up to date knowledge, in all areas of facilities management.
